Publisher Copyright Contract Addenda & Negotiation Strategies Workshop

Publisher Copyright Contract Addenda & Negotiation Strategies Workshop In-Person

The Center for Advancement of Digital Scholarship, or CADS, invites researchers, graduate students, postdocs, and faculty members to the second workshop of the 2017 Fall Interactive Copyright Workshop Series that will help with uncertainty and anxiety concerning the following issues:

  • Understanding what you can and cannot do with your research after you publish
  • The implications of signing over copyright to a publisher
  • Misunderstandings regarding the different types of Open Access (OA)
  • Problems and questions that arise from publishing chapters or sections from theses, dissertations, or reports as scholarly articles, books, book chapters, or other traditional publications

If you are feeling uneasy about these issues, it may be a good time to learn about the intricacies of scholarly publishing, copyright, and what you can do to empower yourself as a scholar and author. CADS will give you the tools you need to make your own decisions about your research and writings while still complying with the demands of career advancement opportunities. Solutions and topics discussed include:

  • Retain specific author rights, even when signing over copyright
  • Learn how to gain the freedom to promote your research, such as through your teaching, conference presentations, lectures, scholarly works, academic social media profiles, and on disciplinary and academic repositories
  • Learn how to negotiate and create your own contract addendum when submitting articles and other scholarly works for publication
  • Learn how to be proactive about finding publisher copyright policies before submitting works for publication
